PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To realize an ink jet recording apparatus which can recover an ink discharge function of nozzles by sucking ink of an amount corresponding to a type of the ink even in the presence of a difference in easiness to foam and drying property of inks used in a plurality of recording heads. SOLUTION: A type of a recording head is judged in step 120. When the ink is easy to foam or dry, purging is carried out at an early time in steps 121, 122 and 123. When the ink is hard to foam or dry, purging is carried out at a later time in steps 130, 140 and 160 than when the ink is easy to foam or dry. Moreover, the purging of a larger number of times is conducted as a longer time has passed since the previous purging. |
