PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To obtain a method for separately calculating the amount of roll wear and amount to be ground (the amount to be ground is furtherseparated into the amount of whole grinding and the amount of stepped griding.) from the change amount of a measured roll profile. SOLUTION: The roll diameters in the end parts of a roll barrel before and after rolling are measured and, based on the ratio of the target amount to be ground of the amount Zz of the whole grinding to the amount Zd of the stepped grinding, the amount of the whole grinding and amount of the stepped grinding are respectively decided. Additionally, the roll diameters in the middle part of the roll barrel before and after rolling are measured and, based on the ratio of the target amount of grinding of the amount of the whole grinding of roll to the amount of the stepped grinding of roll, the amount W of roll wear is decided.
