PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an optical wavelength multiplexer/demultiplexer which is high in yield at the time of optical fiber connection and lessens the loss variation between channel waveguides for output. SOLUTION: Loss increasing parts 8 for increasing the loss of signal light are disposed in mid-way of the respective channel waveguides 6 for output, by which the variation in the loss at the time of the optical fiber connection is suppressed. The diffraction of the signal light is induced by changing the width of a part of cores or disposing discontinuous parts of refractive indices, by which the electric power of a waveguide mode which is the form of the light propagating in the channel waveguides 6 for output without loss is partly scattered and the variation in the loss is suppressed. The device is provided with the portions where the waveguide mode of the signal light is discontinuous, by which the electric power of part of the incident signal light on the discontinuous parts shifts to another waveguide (radiation) mode and, therefore, the electric power of the waveguide mode attenuates and the variation of the loss is suppressed. |
