The method involves detecting pulse sequences of known value and length in a signal. Sample values are derived at successive time points with a time difference greater than or equal to 2. If the phase difference of the sample values is determined as being in the range (mod(deltak*pi/2,2*pi)-pi/2;mod(deltak*pi/2,2*pi)+pi/2), this corresp. to a transmitted symbol "1", otherwise "0". The estimated symbol is filtered with a search window of length equal to the length of the pulse sequence reduced by (deltak + 1), via which successive estimated symbols are passed and in which symbol sums are formed. The symbol sums are compared with a threshold value. If the sum exceeds the threshold, the presence of the pulse sequence sought and its time position are indicated.
