KNEE AIRBAG DEVICE ATTACHED TO COLUMN

PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To obtain a knee airbag device that is attached to a column and allows the upper part and the lower part of a knee airbag to be properly developed respectively over a short period of time.

SOLUTION: A knee airbag 42 of a knee airbag device 10 attached to a column is folded inside a column cover 15 covering a steering column so as to be developed between an instrument panel 22 and the knees K of an occupant while receiving gas supply. The knee airbag 42 is configured to allow an upper strap 52 and a lower strap 54 to respectively limit a thickness in the vehicle front/rear direction of the upper part in the vehicle vertical direction of the knee air bag and a thickness in the vehicle front/rear direction of the lower part in the vehicle vertical direction of the knee air bag configured such that the lower part has a smaller development thickness in the front/rear direction than that of the upper part. An inflator 40, a diffuser 50, and the opening end 50A of the diffuser 50 for supplying gas from the inflator 40 to the knee airbag 42 are arranged so as to be located at the rear of the instrument panel 22 and inside the central expansion part 42A of the knee airbag 42.
