A reactor (1) is made up of 2n+1 pairs of heat storage chambers (A,A',B,B',...) connected using a switch chamber (4a,4b). n is a whole integer greater than 0. The raw gas to be purified is feed to the heated heat storage composition (11) of n heat storage chamber pairs (A,A',B,B',...) for the purpose of preheating, and the de-nitrided heated pure gas is feed to the heat storage composition (11) of another n heat storage chamber pair (A,A',B,B',...) counter currently. The reduction of the nitrogen oxide is with the reduction agent on a combustion chamber in the heat storage chamber (A,A',B,B',...) arranged in the catalyst composition (12). In the process for purifying nitrogen oxide containing waste gas in a reactor with heat storage composition having heat storage chambers, the raw gas to be purified is preheated in a portion of the heat storage chamber, and feed to a combustion chamber after heating and then to a catalyst composition for reduction of nitrogen oxide using a reduction agent. The de-nitrided heated pure gas is heated in the heat storage chamber in another part of the heat storage chambers.
