PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method for producing a napped pile fabric which does not cause detects such as pile-falling, whitening and white blurring, improves a lean appearance, has a voluminous touch, has an excellent new soft touch which conventional fabrics do not have, and is suitable as an interior material for vehicles. SOLUTION: This method for producing a napped pile woven or knitted fabric comprises blending crimped yarns 1 with non-crimped yarns 2, wherein the yarns 1 and the yarns 2 have a dry heat shrinkage constant difference of >=25% at 170 deg.C therebetween, weaving or knitting the prepared composite yarns, applying a pile-shearing treatment to the prepared woven or knitted fabric to equalize the height of the piles, and then thermally treating the fabric to form the two-layered structure having two pile heights.
