PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To suppress the surface staining of earthenware by constituting the outermost layer of a glaze substantially only with glass components and pigments. SOLUTION: The outermost of a glaze is constituted only with glass components and pigments or only with galss components to substantially causes no crack expansion in silica particle areas accompanied by remaining of silica particles or a corrosion reaction resulting in deletion of the silica particles. As a result, the formation of crevice due to solubilization or corrosion is suppressed, and the depression becoming a growing bed of microorganisms and/or a staining point is suppressed, in other words, a pottery is inhibited from being stained. In a preferred embodiment, the outermost surface layer includes no silica particle of >=10μm. Under these conditions, the residual strain on the boundary face between the glass phase and the silica particles during production when the temperature is lowered becomes small and resistant to crack formation is improved.
