PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a speed controller for substantially reducing data related to a characteristic curve for defining the correlation between the manipulation variable of an operation member and speed control signals by detecting the manipulation variable of the operation member by digital signals and converting the digital signals to the speed control signals to be outputted to a motor by using a conversion formula in the speed controller for driving a member to be controlled by the motor at a speed corresponding to the manipulation variable of the operation member. SOLUTION: A CPU 34 obtains the manipulation variable of the operation member 28 through an encoder 30 and a counter 32. Then, the manipulation variable is converted to the speed control signals by a prescribed conversion formula and the speed control signals are outputted through a D/A converter 36 and an amplifier 38 to the motor 40. Thus, the motor 40 is driven at a speed corresponding to the manipulation variable of the operation member 28. The conversion formula can be changed by changing the value of a prescribed coefficient by a selection means 44, and by changing the conversion formula, the characteristic curve of the speed of the motor 40 to be changed corresponding to the manipulation variable of the operation member can be changed.
