PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To confirm a luminescent state of an LED from the outside of a reader without causing effect on an image read system and complaint by general customers. SOLUTION: The image reader that reads an image of an original placed on a platen glass 11, is provided with a control board 9 with an LED 10 emitting a light depending on a state of the reader, a bottom frame 1 with a hole 1a through which a light emitted from the LED 10 passes at the outside of an image read area, a support frame 5 with a hole 5a through which the light passing through the hole 1a of the bottom frame 1 to the outside of the reader, and a guide plate 12 that shields the light passing through the hole 1a of the bottom frame 1 by filling the hole 5a of the support frame 5 and is removable with the platen glass 11. Thus, even when the LED 10 is lighted during a usual use of the reader, it is surely prevented that this light gives effect on an image read system or is seen by eyes of a user.
