Particularly for a road vehicle internal combustion engine coolant, the heating device (1) involves at least one rotor (19) which can be coupled to a drive shaft (17) arranged in a work chamber (15) at least partly fillable with viscous fluid. Connected to the work chamber is a storage chamber (29) for the fluid. A valve arrangement (45) influences the fluid level in the work chamber. At least one heat exchanger (13) functions between the fluid and the heating medium. The storage chamber is arranged in the rotor. The valve arrangement is so formed that at least one first connecting path (35) is closable between the work chamber and the storage chamber. The valve arrangement is operable by at least one electromagnet.
