PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a transfer system for a character string capable of simply and quickly transferring the character string really described on paper or the like to a desired input area of an application without key operation. SOLUTION: This system transferring a character string includes (1) an optical read means 121 reading the character string, a pen device 12 which stores data about the read character string in a memory 124 and outputs the data as an optical signal or the like to a display device 14, (2) a position sensor 143a which is provided in the display device and detects the position of the point of the pen device on the display, (3) a data receiving means 143b which is provided in the display device and receives the data outputted from the outputting means of the pen device and (4) a driver DP which transfers position information LI from the position sensor and data D0 from the data receiving means to an application program.
