PURPOSE: A speech recognition videophone communication device is provided to recognize video information and audio information, transmit recognized information as text codes, and display the information on a display portion of an opposite videophone. CONSTITUTION: A speech recognition videophone communication device comprises a modem(112), a packet processing portion(109), a video codec(103), a video signal processing portion(110), an audio codec(107), a speech recognition processing portion(108), an audio signal processing portion(106), and a system control portion(113). The modem transmits and receives voice data, video data, and speech recognition text data through a telephone line. The packet processing portion composes the voice data, the video data, and the speech recognition text data as packet data and recovers the received packet data to original data. The video codec codes and decodes the video data. The video signal processing portion processes the decoded video data, generates a text signal corresponding to the speech recognition text data, synthesizes the video signal and the text signal, and displays the synthesized signal on a monitor. The audio codec codes and decodes the voice data. The speech recognition processing portion processes converts the voice data to the speech recognition text data. The audio signal processing portion processes the decoded audio signal and converts an input audio signal to a digital signal. The system control portion generates a speech recognition display control signal and controls a transmission operation and a reception operation.
