PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method and system for tracing a life cycle of a film unit according to the use of the film unit. SOLUTION: This method and system trace a life cycle of a film unit. The film unit has a peculiar identifier. A logical memory unit is allocated in the film unit (604). The logical memory unit is away from the film unit. The logical memory unit represents the identifier. When the film unit is used with the input unit after the film unit is sold (406), status data of the film unit are sent to the logical memory unit and recorded (517) therein.
