PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To attain prolongation of service life for a magnetic disk, without possibility such as damages being concentrated to the specific area of the magnetic disk at head loading and to enable the capacity increase of the magnetic disk by expanding the data area. SOLUTION: This head control method is constituted so as to include a 1st step for making the magnetic head 8 ascend to the standby position, after the movement of the magnetic head 8 is made to the unspecified area on the magnetic disk 6 when the recording/reproducing operation by the magnetic head 8 is finished, a 2nd step for making the magnetic head 8 seek on the magnetic disk 6 after being made to descend from the standby position to the lower end position, when the recording/reproducing operation by the magnetic head 8 is reexecuted after the movement to the 1st step, and a 3rd step to make a cartridge holder 12 ascend to the unloading position after the magnetic head 8 is ascended to the upper end position, when the disk cartridge 3 is ejected to the outside after the movement to the 1st step.
