An ethylene polymerisation catalyst comprises: <SL> <LI>A) a solid component obtained by reacting: <SL> <LI>1) 1 mole magnesium dihalide <LI>2) 0.2-95 moles of a C<SB>1</SB>-C<SB>20</SB> organic alcohol, typically ethanol, <LI>3) 0.2-4 moles of a Ti/V non-metallocene compound, typically titanium tetrachloride, <LI>4) 0.05-0.6 moles of a metallocene, typically bis(cyclopentadienyl) zirconium chloride <LI>5) 0.15-20 moles of an aluminoxane </SL> <LI>B) an organoaluminium compound and/or the aluminoxane (of part A), said organoaluminium compound has formula AlR<SB>m</SB>X<SB>3-m</SB>, where R = hydrogen or hydrocarbyl, X = halogen and m * 0 and m < 4, typically B) is triethylaluminium; and 0.0001:1 < A:B < 0.05:1. The catalyst yields polyethylene or copolymers thereof with bimodal and broad molecular weight distributions. </SL>
