PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To properly calculate an optimum shutter speed without saturating pixel data in the case of applying A/D conversion to a camera signal by decreasing a shutter speed in the case of pixel mixed readout. SOLUTION: When a full pixel read system is selected, initial shutter speed data of 1/250 sec are set to a register 23 and pre-exposure is conducted according to the data. A microcomputer 40 calculates an optimum shutter speed on the basis of a camera signal generated by the preliminary exposure and writes corresponding data to the register 23. As a result, normal exposure is executed according to the data. When a pixel mixed readout system is selected, the initial shutter speed at the preliminary exposure is set to 1/500 sec. That is, the shutter speed is halved in comparison with that in the full pixel readout. When a camera signal is generated by the pre-exposure, the optimum shutter speed is obtained similarly to above and the normal exposure is executed according to the data.
