PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To reproduce a picture on a monitor screen of a picture display device in a normal direction independently of a posture (direction) in the case of photographing by a picture input reproduction device such as a camera and to avoid effective pixel numbers from being decreased when a picture is outputted on a picture output device such as a printer. SOLUTION: Posture information of the picture input reproduction device is recorded as management information in correspondence to picture information. In the case of outputting a video image signal on a picture display device such as a CRT, a direction of a reproduced picture is matched with respect to the picture display device and the picture is outputted on the basis of the recorded posture information (S102), for example, a picture photographed longitudinally long is rotated by 90 degrees and the resulting picture is displayed on the picture display device with a laterally long screen. Furthermore, in the case of outputting a digital image signal on the picture output device such as a printer, conversion processing with a direction of picture in matching with the characteristic of the picture output device is applied to the digital image signal and the result is outputted on the basis of the characteristic (S103) of the picture output device and the recorded posture information.
