PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To perform filter function in 100% under a normal condition by giving a sufficient by-pass function when a filter element is clogged for a rod-like pipe filter for a fluid line without complicating a structure of the filter. SOLUTION: In a rod-like pipe filter for a fluid line for an internal combustion engine which acts as a by-pass when a filter element 7 is clogged, the rod-like pipe filter 6 to be inserted into a fluid line 2 in a known hermetically sealed mode by an inlet end 9, is arranged by being separated from a wall of the fluid line. A distance from the wall is maintained by a reinforcing rib 8 having a projected spacer 11. The filter 6 abuts against by pushing a branch part of the fluid line via a tappered face by the outlet end 10. Then, a by-pass opening 14 for securing an overflow of the fluid to an outer region 16 from an inner region 15 to a unit which is to be fed by the fluid when the filter is clogged, is provided.
