PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an optical fiber fusion splicer which is well arranged as a simple device and has an observation mechanism capable of providing observation (monitor) images most easily visible to an operator as well inspite of the stallation condition of the device. SOLUTION: This optical fiber fusion splicer is provided with a fusion splicing mechanism 3 for fusion splicing two optical fibers 1 and 2 and the observation mechanism 4 for observing the two optical fibers 1 and 2 to be fusion spliced at a main body. In such a case, the observation mechanism 4 comprises a television camera 5, an image processor 6 and a television monitor 7. The television camera 5 is capable of photographing the two optical fibers 1 and 2 to be fusion spliced. The image processor 6 is capable of rotating the photographed image of the television camera 5 by 90 deg. and outputting the image to the television monitor 7. The television monitor 7 is freely changeable in its direction with respect to the main body and has reflection displayability.
