PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a color image forming apparatus and a method for correcting an image distortion with which stable correction can be carried out at all times to obtain high-quality color images and costs can be reduced. SOLUTION: The apparatus includes a distortion detecting part for detecting a laser light distortion in a plurality of laser write processes, thereby generating and outputting distortion information, a distortion correcting part for correcting based on the distortion information image information related to laser write scanning lines, and an image data storing part 3 for preserving image data corrected by the distortion correcting part and sending the image data to a laser optical unit 6.
