PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To allow even a child with small hands to grasp a narrow-width handrail simply and reliably and to improve the safety of a passenger conveyor by forming one of handrails traveled synchronously with treads on balustrades erected on the right and left of the treads narrow in width, and forming the other wide in width. SOLUTION: A passenger conveyor 1 is constituted of treads 2 conveying people on them, balustrades 3 erected on the right and left of the treads 2, a handrail 4 with a narrow width (about 40-50 mm) and a handrail 5 with a wide width (normal 82 mm) both traveled synchronously with the treads 2 on the balustrades 3. A child with small hands is allowed to grasp the narrow-width handrail 4, and a grown-up person with large hands is allowed to grasp the wide-width handrail 5 simply and reliably respectively to utilize the passenger conveyor 1 safely. The balustrade 3 supporting the narrow-width handrail 4 is formed lower in height than the balustrade 3 supporting the wide-width handrail, thereby the child is allowed to grasp the handrail 4 more simply and reliably.
