PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To prepare a coating solution which can efficiently produce a high- quality thin functional film excellent in adhesion to a substrate and provide an optical functional film and an antireflection film. SOLUTION: This coating solution contains, as the main ingredient, a silicate oligomer which is obtained by mixing an alkyl silicate (A) represented by the formula: RaO[- Si(ORb)2}-O-]n-Ra (wherein Ra and Rb are each an alkyl; and (n) is an integer of 1 or higher) with a silicon alkoxide (B) represented by the formula: RcSi(ORd)3 (wherein Rc is an alkyl, phenyl, vinyl, or the like; and Rd is an alkyl) and subjecting the resultant mixture to hydrolysis and polycondensation in the presence of water.
