PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To determine whether press-in is satisfactory or not by detecting the press-in at a position which is set near to a push-cut end as possible as it can. SOLUTION: In a method of determining whether press-in is satisfactory or not when a workpiece is pressed into a member to be pressed in having a push-cut end, by a plunger which carries out rectilinear motion, thrust data S1 and position data S2 are obtained in a predetermined stroke range RM during press-in of the workpiece by the plunger, and a position where the rate of variation of the thrust data S1 with respect to the position data S2 becomes greater than a predetermined value is set to a position LLP just before a completion of the press-in, During a process from a predetermined determination initiating position LLH to a determination completing position LLQ, whether the press-in is satisfactory or not is determined, depending upon whether the thrust data S1 falls within predetermined range or not, and the determination completing position LLA is determined in accordance with the position LLP just before the completion of the press-in.
