PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a hurdle work capable of reducing a transport cost and capable of being easily and inexpensively executed. SOLUTION: A earth retaining material 11 is formed by bending expanded metal, and forms an almost hat shape composed of a central flat part 12, the both side inclined parts 13 and both end installing flat parts 14. A pile 10 is driven at an interval into a face of slope. The earth retaining material 11 is arranged with respective pile spans. The earth retaining material 11 of the respective pile spans is arranged by turning the almost hat-shaped projecting side downward to an inclination of the face of slope and applying both end installing flat parts to a back face of the pile 10. The mutual installing flat parts 14 overlapping in the adjacent earth retaining materials 11 are joined by a joining metal fitting. Thus, the expanded metal is not bulky and lightweight, and is reduced in a transport cost. Since the earth retaining material 11 is an almost hat shape, the earth retaining material can be stood without a support, so that execution work is easy. The arranging surface of the earth retaining material 11 can be narrowed, and an excavating width can be narrowed, so that excavating labor can be simplified.
