PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To suppress deterioration in external surface appearance due to formation of white rust and also deterioration in external surface appearance due to spangle, dross adhesion, or ripple pattern, and to provide a hot-dip galvanized steel sheet excellent in external surface appearance. SOLUTION: This hot-dip galvanized steel sheet is constituted by forming a hot-dip galvanizing layer on the surface of a basis steel sheet. In this hot-dip galvanized steel sheet, the deterioration in external surface appearance due to formation of white rust is suppressed by raising the lightness of plating-layer surface by JIS-Z-8729 to >=70 and/or the deterioration in external surface appearance due to spangle, dross adhesion, or ripple pattern is suppressed by controlling the glossiness of plating-layer surface by a 60 deg. specular gloss measuring method by JIS-Z-8741 to <=100.
