PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To obtain a luminous element material having good luminous characteristics, having excellent stability even when repeatedly used, and useful for display elements, displays, back lights, electrophotography, recording light sources, or the like, by using a compound having a specific partial structure. SOLUTION: This luminous element material comprises a compound having a partial structure of the formula [Q1 is an atomic group necessary for forming a five or six-membered nitrogen-containing aromatic heterogeneous ring; Q2 is an atomic group necessary for forming a five or six-membered aromatic ring; X, Y are each C or N; Z is SO2R1 (R1 is an aliphatic hydrocarbon, an aryl, a heterocyclic ring, amino, an alkoxy, an aryoxy or a heterocyclic ring oxy), COR2 (R2 is the same as R1) or POR3(R4) (R3, R4 are each the same as R1]. The luminous element material is useful, for example, as a material for electroluminescent(EL) elements which can emit light in high luminance and are good in durability.
