PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a roof structure having the function to prevent an accident of the fall of a roof member in an earthquake or other disasters in constructing a novel roof on an existing roof, and its construction method. SOLUTION: A verge edge and an eaves edge in an existing roof of a building, etc., are collectively fixed by holding pieces 21, a base roofing material 22 is placed on a surface of the roof, an existing roof finish material is joined with and fixed to a back side of the base roofing material 22, a roof finish material 23 is newly stretched over and fixed to the whole surface of the base roofing material 22. The roof is provided with the holding pieces 21 to collectively fix the verge edge and the eaves edge on the existing roof of the building, etc., the base roofing material 22 which is placed on the surface of the existing roof and joins and fixes the existing roof finish material 4 to its back side, and a new roof finish member 23 which is stretched over and fixed to the whole surface of the base roofing material 22.
