PURPOSE: A process for producing high yields of polymerizable adamantane derivatives each having at least one polymerizable unsaturated group is provided which can inhibit the mixing with a halogen component. CONSTITUTION: High yields of polymerizable adamantane derivatives each having at least one polymerizable unsaturated group are produced by the esterification or amidation of a compound of formula (1) and a polymerizable unsaturated compound (e.g. an alcohol, a carboxyl acid or an amine) in the presence of a catalyst comprising a compound of a Group 3 element of the periodic table, such as a samarium compound. In the formula (1), R1a to R4a represent each a substituent selected from among inert atoms, inert groups, hydroxyl, carboxyl and amino, provided at least two groups of R1a to R4a are hydroxyl, carboxyl or amino.
