The invention relates to a hydrodynamic brake, comprising a rotor (3) and a stator (5). The hydrodynamic brake has a mobile flow barrier (7) for reducing ventilation losses in the idling mode. Said flow block is configured as a dividing wall in the form of one-piece or multi-piece flat ring segments, one end of each ring segment (7, 7') being fixed to a pivot pin (8, 8') in an articulated manner near the inner wall of the torus. The other end of each ring segment is connected to a displacement device (10, 10') which enables the ring segments to be displaced.
