PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To increase the output of magnetic recording and reproducing as much as possible without adjusting the position of a magnetic head by forming a polishing layer essentially comprising abrasive particles and a binder resin on a flexible supporting body and controlling the total thickness and the center line average surface roughness of the polishing layer to respective specified ranges. SOLUTION: The polishing tape 4 is obtd. by forming a polishing layer 8 on a flexible supporting body 7, and in the polishing layer, abrasive particles 82 are dispersed and fixed in a binder resin 81. The surface of the polishing layer 8 slides and travels on a magnetic head 10 and laps the surface of the head. The average particle size of the abrasive is preferably <=1μm. When the polishing tape is thin, the reproducing output can be further improved by decreasing the coefft. of dynamic friction. Thereby, the surface roughness Ra of the tape and the total thickness of the polishing tape are preferably controlled to <=0.08μm and <=13μm, respectively. Moreover, when the total thickness of the polishing tape is <=9μm, the output is further improved by decreasing the coefft. of dynamic friction. |
