PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To prevent the shortage of the discharge amount from a fuel pump even when a cam is rotated at a high speed for supplying required fuel. SOLUTION: A high pressure fuel pump is designed in a cam profile so as to have a suction stroke longer than a discharge stroke. The supply of a fuel by a low pressure feed pump is kept up with the suction stroke and a time allowance is produced for filling a sufficient fuel in a pump chamber under negative pressure even when the cam is rotated at a high speed. As a result, even when an engine is rotated at a high speed, there are no problems with the suction and discharge amounts of the fuel into/from the pump chamber, thus preventing the shortage of the discharge amount from the fuel pump. |
