Soft unvulcanized rubber particles are spread as a flat uniform covering on a base band carrying them. They are hot-pressed. Vulcanization follows immediately. Preferred features: Hot pressing takes place at 80 deg C, preferably 100-120 deg C and under a mechanical pressure of 3-5 bar, preferably 4 bar. The rubber particles are at least partially crosslinked already. A rotary distribution roller spreads the particles. They have differing colors and are spread from different distributors. Particle size is 0.5-50 mm, distributed to weights of 250-8000 g/m<2> on the band. They have differing physical characteristics. The base band takes no part in the vulcanization process. The bands are separated, the base band being returned to the start of the process. The base band comprises soft elastic, unvulcanized rubber material.
