PURPOSE: Provided are a glass for producing glass bead, having composition capable of enhancing abrasion resistance and impact resistance by crystallization while retaining its sphere shaping property, and a method for producing high strength glass bead. CONSTITUTION: The glass consists of 32-63 wt.% of SiO2, 4-18 wt.% of B2O3, 8-24 wt.% of at least one of MgO and CaO, 8-24 wt.% of Al2O3, 4-23 wt.% of at least one of Na2O and K2O, and 2-13 wt.% of ZrO2. The method comprises the steps of (i) crushing the glass; (ii) mixing the crushed glass with carbon powder and heating the mixture to 870-970deg.C, so as to crystallize the mixture and shaping the mixture into sphere; and (iii) reheating the heated spherical glass at 860-900 deg.C for 30 minutes to 2 hours to increase crystallinity of the glass.
