摘要 In a NOx trap regeneration process, the regeneration cycle duration is modified according to the oxygen storage capacity of the catalyst and/or the storage capacity of the NOx trap. In the regeneration of a NOx trap, located after a 3-way catalyst in an engine exhaust system, in which the injected fuel quantity is modified to initiate or terminate a regeneration cycle employing a rich fuel/air ratio, the novelty is that the regeneration cycle duration is modified as described above. An Independent claim is also included for equipment for carrying out the above process, comprising (a) an electronic fuel injection control unit with devices for initiating a regeneration cycle, for determining the approximate current NOx take-up rates of the NOx trap, for integrating these take-up rates, for comparing the integrated value with a threshold value, for initiating the regeneration cycle when the threshold value is exceeded and for resetting the integrated take-up rate after termination of the regeneration cycle; and (b) an adapter unit for determining the engine running time, the vehicle mileage, the catalyst operating conditions and the NOx trap operating conditions.
