PURPOSE: A method of assigning/releasing a channel in consideration of traffic property is to differently assign a hand-off channel according to the traffic property to reduce a call drop rate, thereby improving performance and efficiency of a CDMA(code division multiple access) mobile communicating system. CONSTITUTION: When a traffic processing operation is required, an assigning table of a common channel and a private channel is detected to check whether a usage of the common channel is reached to a critical value. Then, whether a usable channel exists or not is determined. If the common channel exists, the common channel is assigned to perform the traffic processing operation. If the common channel does not exist, whether the traffic is a new traffic or a hand-off traffic is determined. If the traffic is the new traffic, the process is finished. If the traffic is the hand-off traffic, whether the traffic is a time sensitive traffic or a time insensitive traffic is determined. If the traffic is the time insensitive traffic, a buffer stands by for a desired period. If the traffic is the time sensitive traffic, whether usable private channel exists is determined. If the private channel exists, the private channel is assigned to perform the traffic processing operation.
