PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a cleaning member abutting on an electrifying roller and the like and maintaining stable cleaning peformance over a long term with simple and inexpensive constitution. SOLUTION: This cleaning member is an open cell type-sponge member 28 abutting on the surface of a rotating roller 24 such as the electrifying roller and removing a foreign matter such as toner on the surface of the roller 24. The foreign matter such as the toner absorbed by the member 28 from a contact surface to the roller 24 passes through cells (open cells) linked all inside the member 28 and moves in a direction where it goes away from the contact surface, so that the stable cleaning performance is achieved over a long term.
