PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a digital camera that by having only to enter a password solves a problem of security that output/reproduction of image data stored in the digital camera can freely be conducted by anyother party as well as a photographer. SOLUTION: In the digital camera that digitizes a photographed image signal and stores it, a password is entered by setting a mode dial 6 to a registration position, and a character displayed on a display device 5 is sequentially changed by depressing arrow buttons 7 under the control of a CPU 12 to select a desired character. A photographing button 4 is depressed when the CPU 12 stores the password to a data memory 1, and image data resulting from digitally converting an image signal from an image pickup unit 2 at that time by an A/D converter 11 are stored in the data memory in cross reference with the password. In the case of reproducing image data, an entered password is collated with the password stored in cross reference with the image data, and only when they are coincident, the image data in cross reference with the password are reproduced.
