PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To prevent occurrence of shock which may be caused by abrupt engagement of a one-way clutch at a specified low speed gear stage which is set at the time of re-acceleration after deceleration, at an intersection or, etc. SOLUTION: A control device for an automatic transmission has a sensing means for running environment of a vehicle, and is operated for controlling the automatic transmission which performs down-shifting to a lowermost speed gear stage by engaging a one-way clutch based on the sensed running environment. A low speed environment sensing means is arranged for sensing approaching or entering the running environment requiring the down-shifting to the lowermost speed gear stage (S1). In addition, down-shifting to a lowermost speed stage prohibition means is arranged for prohibiting the down-shifting (S3) when approaching or entering the running environment requiring the down- shifting to the lowermost speed gear stage. |
