PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method for producing a conjugated diene polymer having a controlled microstructure, in a catalyst system using a metallocene type complex of a transition metal compound. SOLUTION: This method comprises polymerizing a conjugated diene compound using a catalyst obtained from (A) a metallocene type complex of a transition metal compound, (B) an ionic compound of a noncoordinating anion and a cation, (C) an organometallic compound of a group 1-3 element of the periodic table and (D) water. In the method, a prepolymerization is conducted by using the catalyst components and a polymerization is then carried out.
