PURPOSE: A method for image compression transmission and reception recovering of image communication apparatus is provided to increase the image data transmission rate and the number of transmission images per hour and to prevent the deterioration of image quality. CONSTITUTION: A method for image compression transmission and reception recovering of image communication apparatus is provided to transmit by compressing image data and to recover by receiving the image data transmitted. In a transmission port(401), index of a used quantization table is added to a header when transmitting image data, and a reception port(402) recovers the received image data using the value of the quantization table which the corresponding quantization table index indicates by detecting the quantization table index. The transmission capability of image data is improved and an image communication apparatus having a better image quality is provided, by dividing image according to the characteristics of regions, and by transmitting the image data bse upon the quantization using different quantization table classified by regions in the process of transmission and compression of the image data.
