PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To reduce the power consumption which is not directly relevant to driving at the time of liquid crystal display and to reduce the power consumption at low cost by providing at least >=2 polarity signals in case of inversion- by-N-lines driving and controlling the polarity signals by N output blocks. SOLUTION: A polarity signal A101 is connected to the input of an inverter 103, whose output is connected to an odd-numbered output block 105. A polarity signal B102 is connected to the input of an inverter 104, whose output is connected to an even-numbered output block 105. Then a high and a low level are switched, frame by frame, with the polarity signals A101 and B102. Then different outputs of the odd-numbered and even-numbered output blocks 105 are selected, high and low outputs are alternated, line by line, and an alternating current is applied to the liquid crystal. The switching frequencies of the inverters 103 and 104 in this case are once for one frame irrelevantly to the number of the lines in the one frame.
