PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To solve a problem such as defective conveyance due to insufficient suction by stopping a suction belt once in supply of a paper sheet for surely sucking the paper sheet to the suction belt and turning the suction belt after a pressure value inside a negative pressure chamber reaches a predetermined value or more. SOLUTION: A paper sheet 1a placed on a conveyor part 2 is conveyed toward a single sheet ejecting part 3, and when the sheet is detected by means of a paper sheet presence/absence detection sensor 13, the conveyor part 2 is stopped. In this time, a solenoid valve 9 is turned on and a negative pressure is generated inside a negative pressure chamber 6, so that the paper sheet 1a is sucked to a suction belt 4. Then, a pressure inside the negative pressure chamber 6 is increased, and an ON signal is outputted from a pressure sensor 16. Subsequently, a servomotor 5 is turned on and the suction belt 4 is turned, so that the paper sheet 1a is transferred. When a paper sheet position detecting sensor 15 detects that the paper sheet 1a reaches a conveying means 14, the solenoid valve 9 is turned off and vacuum suction for the paper sheet 1a is released.
