A method for the manufacture of a gun ammunition cartridge (12) including multi-stage insertion of a projectile (24) into a case (14) a distance beyond the inboard terminal end (30) of the neck (18) of the case (14) without deleterious effect upon the gun powder (23) disposed within the case (14). Substantially full utilization is achieved of the interior volume of the case that is available for the receipt of gun powder (23).
