PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a high quality and large type liquid crystal display device and its driving method in which defective display is not generated even when a specific pattern such as a checkered pattern of a pixel unit. SOLUTION: At the time of driving a liquid crystal display device, video signals alternately reversed in the polarity according to the output of a driving circuit 9a are applied to approximately a half of the plural signal lines 1 composing a whole picture so that the residual potential is deflected toward the positive polarity, and the remaining half signal lines are phase-reversed in polarity change according to the output of other driving circuit 96 so that the residual potential is deflected toward the negative polarity, and thereby a mean potential of the whole signal lines is brought to be constant at the middle of the both, preferably, just in the neighborhood of zero level so as to suppress fluctuation of the pixel potential.
