PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method and an apparatus for mounting a magnetic head with which a positioning fixed reference when the magnetic head is loaded to a suspension is easily set, position adjustment is simplified, a positioning accuracy is improved and efficient production is achieved. SOLUTION: After a suspension 2 is fixed to a fixing plate 8, retainer rods 9a, 9b are moved in an up-down Z direction, thereby pressing the suspension 2. A face angle of a part 11 where a magnetic head is to be mounted is adjusted. While the magnetic head 1 and the part 11 of the suspension 2 are monitored through a monitor hole 32 in the same view field, a magnetic head- moving device 3 is moved in a horizontal direction (X, Y directions), a vertical direction (Z direction) and a rotational direction (θdirection) using a center of the magnetic head 1 as an axis, whereby the magnetic head 1 and the part 11 on the suspension 2 are registered. A superior positioning accuracy is thus obtained and the like objectives are achieved.
