PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To operate by a world wide web browser of an external device by loading a world wide web server program. SOLUTION: When a command sent from a PC(personal computer) is received by a browser (S1), the received command is decoded by an HTTP server program (world wide web server program) (S2). As a result of decoding, when the command is a command requesting the transmission of file data, file data in which the state of an MFD(facsimile machine as a multifunction peripheral device) is written are transmitted to the PC by an HTTP server program (S2). Here, the browser is software for reading information existing on the Internet and becomes widespread together with the Internet. Therefore, a PC where the browser is loaded can report the state of the MFD to the PC without loading a FAX control program proper to the MFD.
