PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To give a position detecting function to a movable-coil linear DC motor by mounting an electromagnetic transducer element on one end section of a stator and making the output of the element which varies depending upon the moving direction of a mover the same by means of an output processing circuit. SOLUTION: A linear DC motor is constituted of a stator 1 composed of a pair of yokes 2a and 2b and a first permanent magnet 7, a mover 11 which is wound around the yoke 2a with a prescribed interval in between, a position detector 21 composed of an electromagnetic transducer element 22 fixed to the end section of the space 10 formed on the internal surfaces of the yokes 2a and 2b and magnet 7 in the direction shown by the arrow B, and an output processing circuit 31 which makes the same the output of the element 22 when the mover 11 moves in the direction shown by the arrow A and the output of the element 22 when the mover 11 moves in the direction shown by the arrow B.
