A thrombus filter element (10) for placement within a blood vessel lumen defined by a blood vessel wall is disclosed. The thrombus filter element (10 ) includes a hub (12) having a proximal end, a distal end, and a lumen extendi ng therethrough, a plurality of wires (18) extending from the hub (12), at leas t one end of each wire (18) being fixed to the hub (12) proximate the proximal end thereof, a plurality of struts (14) radiating away from the hub (12), th e fixed end of each strut (14) being fixed to the hub (12) proximate the dista l end thereof, and a slider rod (22) slidingly disposed within the lumen of th e hub (12).
