PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To obtain a color liquid crystal display element having excellent display performance, high panel bonding strength and excellent reliability by using color filters having specific thickness at the residual films of the colored films on a substrate exclusive of a display region. SOLUTION: The color filters have pixels consisting of colored layers disposed to a desired pattern shape. Black matrices may be formed between the respective colored layers. The colored layers are applied in a state of solid films over the entire surface of the substrate and are thereafter patterned by utilizing photolithography. Then the colored layers once applied on the unnecessary parts of the colored layers exclusive of the display region, etc., are peeled. The colored layers are not completely peeled and the thin colored layers colored as the remaining films are left. The films are formed to a thickness below 3 nm. When the films exceed 3 nm, the pigments contained in the films are much and display unevenness is easily caused in the liquid crystal display element by impurity elution. In addition, the films are formed to <=3 nm, by which the sealing strength of the liquid crystal display element is improved. |
